She was born on February 13 25 in the new style, in Novograd-Volynsky, Volyn province now Zvyagel, Zhytomyr region. Olha Petrivna belonged to the Dragomanov family. She was the sister of the public figure, scholar, and founder of Ukrainian socialism, Mykhailo Drahomanov. Lesya Ukrainka became the second child in the large Kosach family.
