This is a well written informative first biography of Gandhi. My second grader read it and enjoyed it, though she thought that some of the history was sad which it is.
It is a very simplistic biography. It works well for 1st-3rd graders as an introductory overview, but older children will definitely need a more in depth biography. This is more of an introduction and starting point for further learning and discussion than a comprehensive biography or history. My daughter is studying civil rights in school right now, and they focus pretty exclusively on MLK, I got this for her to supplement that and to provide a more global perspective on civil rights struggles.
She read it voluntarily on her own, and did learn from it. I like that it has some comprehension questions at the end as well as an extensive glossary. All the words in the glossary are in bold in the text, so kids that are newer readers can easily look them up on their own in the back of the book. We prefer the "I am The Work it Girl biographies are by far the most comprehensive biographies, but they have very limited scope as to who they feature.
